dorothy scott banquet

Dorothy beams as she greets friends and collegues in the receiving line.Members of the Meridian Street United Methodist Church, colleagues, and friends will gathered at the Mansion at Oak Hill on April 15 to honor local organist Dorothy Scott's 68 years of being "at the console."  Gary Angstadt, Indianapolis realtor and long-time member of the Meridian Street Chancel Choir acted as emcee for the event.  As well as the honor shown her by Mayor Ballard, Dorothy was awarded the title of "Distinguished Hoosier" by Governor Mitch Daniels.

Dorothy and her late husband Farrell began their church related music careers when both were asked to assume the positions of organist and Director of Music, respectfully, by the Meridian Street Methodist Church in 1941. At the start of her tenure with Meridian Street Methodist Church, she also briefly played for the First Baptist Church. Both Dorothy and Farrell were involved with the music program at the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation for 27 years.

With the Indianapolis Chapter, Sigma Alpha Iota, she has served as Dean, a distinguished recognition of her talents as an organist. She has also received their Sword of Honor and Rose of Honor for performance.

Members of Meridian Street, friends and collegues of Dorothy have made contributions to a special fund being established in Dorothy's honor.
