Through the Covenant Relationship Program of the United Methodist Church, a program that provides financial aid for mission personnel posted all over the world, our church sponsors a working missionary. We are currently supporting Jim Doepkin who is stationed in Girdwood Alaska.
Jim is a United Methodist minister from Indiana who spent a summer along with his wife Juli working in Nome as a Volunteer in Mission in 1990. He later responded to a call to return as a full time missionary and was sent to Girdwood as the pastor of the local United Methodist Church, which has the only church building in this small mountain town of 2,000 people.
The church's mission statement is to be a visible and vital Christian Spiritual-life center in and for the community of Girdwood. Meridian Street has helped them to fulfill their mission both financially and through work related mission trips assisting in the expansion and construction of the church facilities.
