The organized unit of United Methodist Women “shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.” All women of the church are “members” of the United Methodist Women’s group, and every woman can be part of the activities. There are no dues, no admission fees, or rigorous admission process!—women automatically become members of UMW when they join Meridian Street—or any Methodist Church.
UMW Board meetings are held every other month throughout the year on Tuesday mornings beginning in September and general meetings and luncheons are scheduled throughout the year. All women in the church are invited to the Board meetings. The UMW sponsors two main fundraisers: “Pumpkins to Poinsettias” brunch and fashion show in November, and “Love In Bloom” flower, plant, and bake sale in April. Money from these projects are further augmented by a poinsettia sale in December and a pansy sale in March. The UMW fall luncheon and program usually features an inspiring speaker from the community.
There are five active women’s circles—a Tuesday morning book discussion group; a Moms’ Circle; a Tuesday evening fellowship group; a Friday morning study group; and a Saturday morning Emmaus Reunion Group. Childcare is provided for UMW programs, meetings, and Circles.
Our local UMW annually pledges a significant sum to the global mission priorities of the national United Methodist Women’s Group, as well as to local missions in the Indianapolis area.
